Don't worry, there won't be flannel, or rather, there won't be much flannel.

Vacation Blazing

This is the last blazer post and with this last post I rip the business-like blazer off and I am on vacation, well, after work tomorrow I will be. I'll be gone for the next week hanging out by a lake, getting tan and relaxing. What should I wear? Cutoffs and tanks. I think my husband might just appreciate that.

As I won't be posting here, I'll keep up with Twitter and tweet anything interesting. So get Twitter! I like Twitter better than Facebook. And not as many U.P. people have it so I suggest it frequently to people.

Purple Rain, I mean, Blazer

It's raining! I'm so excited that for half the day it just poured. We really needed the rain. The grass was crunchy beneath my feet. Hopefully this rain helps our crops out.

Velvet...never liked velvet until Burberry's Fall line. Oh my sweet fashion lines, it's beautiful.

What Can a Blazer Do For You?

And so begins the blazer series. I, for some reason, love blazers. They add something structured to an outfit, a delightful layer.

The Olympics start soon. Yippee. I adore watching the Olympics. I very much dislike watching sports, like football, baseball...but the Olympics, I wish they were on every year. Don't forget to catch your favorite events, starting this Friday!

Lavender Pants

Ever since I saw lavender pants on this girl here, I have wanted to try them. I found a pair at Salvation Army and squeezed myself in them. Next I want a pair of mint green pants. I saw a girl in a pair walking on campus and I wanted to shout out the car window how awesome they looked and where she got them. But I didn't. Next pair after that would be a sweet floral pair. Sigh, that's my wish list right now.
Behind me is one of the ore docks. I really wanted to hop the fence down there and walk out to it. But...too many people around and I, you know, follow the rules.

So the sun may not do well with my outfit, but it makes my skin look great.

Here is a quick weekend post. Starting either tomorrow or Monday there will be a series of posts all starring...wait for it...blazers! I know you're excited. Who doesn't love blazers? They are so blazer-y.

Denim on Denim

I am wearing head to mid-thigh denim. I always see the whole jean suit in magazines with models chicly looking awesome in an outfit that I usually think belongs to farmers. Jean shirts were everywhere last summer and I picked this one up at a thrift store and wore it a couple of times but it quickly fell to the back of the closet. And then I thought up this outfit and I think it turned out pretty well.

I'm a little damp from the lake. Lake Superior is pretty warm this summer. And absolutely perfect in this hot, hot weather.

I heart the addition of the leopard flats.

It's all about Balance

I'm posting another work outfit but my next post will be some summa, summa fun...Hint, hint: denim suit. That's all I'm giving you.

This is the fullest skirt I own, so I usually pair it with something fitted on top. It's all about balance, right? In fact, that's one of my favorite things about fashion. Balancing boyfriend jeans with a girly, frilly top; a manish blazer with a curve hugging skirt.

Is it Autumn?

I feel like, ahhh, summer is finally here. And then the magazines start showing up in the mail hailing all the beautiful clothes from the fall lines and back-to-school supplies started replacing all the pool toys and garden gear. And I'm just like whaaaa? Yeah, imagine me standing there with my mouth hanging open. I just can't keep up.

Right now you're probably thinking that outfit below does not look very summery. I am trying to balance what I need to wear to work, where the air conditioning is freezing and the outdoors where it is delightfully warm. I'm pretty lucky in living close to the lake so at night it usually cools off nicely where its at least comfortable to wear a light sweater. My way of balancing is usually either short sleeves or bare legs. Or layer, layer, layer. Things that are easy to take off and on and still look chic.

The beautiful spot that I'm posing at is a little park on your way to Presque Isle. Pretty little area right off the bike path.

Magazines

I adore fashion magazines. I read quite a few and the below outfit was influenced by a magazine. When I hit a wall in grad school I turned to fashion magazines and read them obsessively, seeking a break from literature into something just as beautiful and what seemed to me, easier. I explored many of them, finding some I like and some I didn't. So I thought I would give a quick review of some of my favorites, especially since its sit by a pool season. Scroll down below for that.

Bare foot. If I could, I would spend my entire summer barefoot.

Vogue: Absolutely beautiful magazine. It's my cultural escape. Something so other than normal life. Very runway. Always good for an anti-aging article but redeemed by its slices of life and memoirs. Filled with beautiful photos that seem limited only to models Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls.

Harper's Bazaar: Just as beautiful as Vogue and just as full, if not more, of fashion. If you have a subscription the covers are so gorgeous not covered in all that writing. Perfect for your coffee table. Perfect for framing if you want to go that far. Now has a feature from the point of view of a designer and how their days go and reveals just how weird most of them are. Beyond the content, the bigger size of the magazine itself I like. Like its working outside of the box.

Marie Claire: A good mix of news, fashion, beauty. A little bit more down to earth than Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Full of ideas pulled from the runway then presented in more real world outfit ideas.

Glamour: Not as focused on fashion, adds a bit of sex/relationship stuff which is always nice. Usually has some horrifying article about something bad that has happened to a girl and how she over came it. But Glamour is great at empowering. We all remember that photo of "real-looking" women, right?

Lucky: I love Lucky. It's all about clothes and shopping. This has the most relatable fashion. I feel I can always find an idea that I could easily re-create. This is where I got the idea for this outfit. If you don't like so much reading like Vogue or Harper's Bazaar or don't like the news, relationship stuff of Glamour and Marie Claire, Lucky is great because usually the only article is the interview with the cover girl.

Nylon: I haven't read this in awhile as I have to limit the magazines somewhere. But a really neat mix of fashion and music.

Seventeen: I had to add this magazine because this was my first magazine and I read it into college until I started not recognizing the starlets featured in it. However, they just promised to represent more realistic women and models and how awesome is that?

Find your favorite magazine and hit the beach! Seriously, it's heaven.

Return of the Yellow Sweater

And here is the last yellow sweater post! Which I realize while going through the pictures needs a belt to really pull it together...but I am so very belt happy. I think pretty much any outfit could use a belt.
