Don't worry, there won't be flannel, or rather, there won't be much flannel.

Blazing on the Trunk of a Car

Does this title sound bad? Blazing...like I'm blazing a duby while sitting on a car instead of wearing a blazer while posing on the trunk of a car? Oh well, I like it.
Okay, so these pictures aren't exactly close-ups of my clothing, but these were so fun taking them I kinda forgot the reason why I was having my sister take pictures of me.
This mini junkyard is located at my grandparent's camp. The cars are taken there to retire and usually robbed of parts to keep other vehicles going. And I thought it would be a perfect place to stand on a car and act a little badass-ish.

Orange hat, have to wear it in the woods during hunting season. Have I talked about this yet? Hunting season? So... this holiday arrives in the U.P. every year on November the 14th. It's such a big holiday, school's like the one I attended growing up, actually had the say off. And this great holiday is the first day of deer hunting season. Many men, and women, load up their cars with food, booze, guns, and bait and head out to deer camp. There they get up at first light and head out to their blind and sit in the freezing cold waiting for that giant buck to pause at their bait pile long enough to become venison sausage. Yum yum.

And here is one of my lovely sisters, baring a little sexy shoulder.

This was right after I almost fell off the car. Literally, I slipped and almost fell off the car.

Here is my other sister! Again, bearing a shoulder. I see a trend happening here...Something I should try?

My sister taking a picture of me through a tree. With me wondering why my sister is crouched behind a tree.

And yep, there is another hunting season post, where the orange must be included.

Great-Grandma's Cool Stuff

My Great-Grandmother's house is soon to be demolished. It has fallen into disrepair the last few years and before it was erased I wanted to show my husband who, of course, never knew her, to see the house.

The house is still pretty full of stuff as there is going to be a garage sale (estate sale?) before the demolition and I took pictures! Hopefully I end up with some of the remaining artifacts, too.

A painting hanging out in the living room that I liked.

This is the couch. I wish I could have taken it with me. Got it fixed up. Unfortunately I do not have the room.

This is a shot of the floor in one of the upstairs bedrooms. This is the linoleum. How sweet is this? I have never seen linoleum like this before.

An older phone, not sure if it's actually vintage because this wasn't the original phone (other people lived in the house after my great-grandmother, one happened to be an interior-designer).

This is a pie safe? Food is out but at the same time covered? I think?

Cool Bottles

Sweet clock

This chair my husband and I want. It is from the '20's and in very good condition except for the seat cushion. We are waiting to see if we can get it. Gotta ask the relatives, go through that whole rigamarole.

A flour sifter!

Right now I am in love with vintage or vintage-looking stuff. I have always loved history, old stuff. Look at everything that caught my eye at my great-grandmother's house. It's all so detailed. Flour sifters today are usually just stainless steel with no pretty decorations on it. Couches don't have an embroidered pattern on the cushions, linoleum doesn't have elaborate, brightly colored details. Stuff isn't like that today. Why? What happened to the details?

Anyway, I thought some of you all would appreciate this little bit of history. I have a couple sweet posts coming up!

90's Floral Moss

I was given this dress and immediately recognized it as a product of the 90's. Not without a little surprise I tried it on and really like the fit. I should have taken a picture of it without the sweater. Only unfortunate thing is that I can't bend over in it. No joke. Can't. The length isn't that short (See it extends beyond my fingertips). God knows I've worn shorter and never had a problem with my butt hanging out. So yeah, couldn't bend over. But I really wanted something else to wear these tights with, because I love wearing my colored tights. I know, good story, right?

Oh, curious, are those the same tights from a previous post? Yes, yes they are.

Thumbs up on this outfit. Right? Right?

This here is one of the vintage pieces I mentioned previously. And guess what! This is a clip-on earring. Extremely painful to actually wear on ears but very cute clipped on a necklace.

Shoe shot!

Got all your baking done for tomorrow? My contribution to Thanksgiving dinner is a pumpkin pie and chocolate chip cookies. I really hope the pie turns out, the crust looks fantastic and I'm proud of it! Happy Thanksgiving all.

Moss is growing on my legs!

Okay, moss really isn't growing on my legs, but I thought that would catch your attention. Really moss green is just the color of my tights.

Sorry I have been absent lately. There are a few reasons for this. I was out of town this weekend and hidden in the middle of the woods in something we Yoopers refer to as "camp." November 17th was the first day of deer hunting season and this weekend we visited my grandparent's camp so my husband can sit in a blind, hiding from the deer just enough to hopefully shoot a big buck. And he did! Venison for us for the rest of the year. But in such locations there definitely isn't internet, rarely cell service, and sometimes no indoor toilet. Luckily we do have an indoor toilet. And I got a three minute photo shoot in, too. More on that later...

I have also been trying to focus on homework, blah, blah, blah. The area (excuse my computer illiteracy) where I stick my memory card in my computer has decided not to work and I had to break down and use my school computer, another blah there. But mostly the reason for my absenteeism is the Sookie Stackhouse novels. These books are the basis for HBO's True Blood series. I am a sucker for a mystery novel. A true sucker, have to read it to the end just to see how Sookie is going to figure out this current mystery. If you want a quick easy mystery read over the coming school break, check them out.

Here is some photos I took a couple weeks ago now, when the weather was a bit nicer (we have snow on the ground right now!)

I am trying so hard to balance here...

Like my braid? I thought it turned out pretty well. Usually I'm not so good with braids and hair. But not bad, eh?

Simple, Comfy and a Brooch

Another work outfit? Yep. Okay.

Tank: Burlington Coat Factory
Skirt: Thrifted
Cardigan: Target
Belt: Kohls
Necklace: Claires
Pendant: Vintage

Here is one of the vintage pendants I mentioned in my previous post. Isn't it pretty? It's actually a brooch, but I pinned it on a necklace and ta-da! A nice necklace.

Since it's so dark so early I don't have too many opportunities for picture taking. So it's either wait for the weekend or take pictures in front of this boring wall. But some outfits cannot wait for the weekend. I like this outfit because its simple, comfy and probably one of my favorite type of outfits, because it's simple and comfy.

Vintage Blue two, and purple

I first wore this skirt here. Similar outfit, yes. Can you tell I like the mix of blues together? It's so fun putting those colors together. Which is something I used to stay away from...

but now I don't. Mix colors that don't seem to go together! I dare you. Step outside that box. Right? Right! Love it.

Cardigan: American Eagle
Shirt: Target
Skirt: Vintage
Tank: Maurices
Necklace: Maurices, Sacred Heart Store
Bracelets: Claires, American Eagle, Forever 21
Heels: Payless

Since occasionally finding cute vintage apparel, I have become quite enamored of the whole process. Finding something older, something that possibly has a history, that's in good condition, and usually no one else has(!) is so fun. It's like discovering buried treasure. It makes me want to own my own vintage store, but I don't know if that would work in Marquette. Maybe with all the hippies up here, but...they are more into wearing...you know what, I won't get into that. Or my opinion on the scent of patchouli.

Anyway...My mom just gave (lent? I'm probably not going to give it back any time soon, though) an assortment of jewelry from my grandmothers and great-grandmothers. Mostly brooches which I have been pinning onto chains and wearing them as necklaces. They are so pretty! I have been wearing them as much as I can. So look for that coming soon. I will make sure I have close ups of the jewelry!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

I thought I would share with you all one of my favorite cookie recipes. Chocolate chip cookies are my all time favorite treat. Always. If you like nice soft cookies, this is the perfect recipe.

And this is my favorite recipe. I'm not sure where this recipe came from. If it came off a jello box and passed around my family until I finally got it... but it's been tweaked a bit over the years to what seems to work the best.

Preheat oven to 350 or 375, which ever works best for you.

1 box instant vanilla pudding
2 eggs
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 white sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup butter (or margarine, butter works the best)
2 1/4 cup flour
as many chocolate chips as you want!
Mix all together
Spoon onto baking sheet
Bake between 7 - 10 mins or until browned to perfection!
